Els Caçadors is a hotel located in Ribes de Freser that also has a great cocktail bar (specialized in Gin tonics) and a very good restaurant when I had lunch after a hike in the area. We didn't stay at the hotel but just the bar deserves an article.
We were invited to a Gin tonic tasting at the bar Els Caçadors where the owner, Ramon Pau, made dozens of variations of Gin tonics for us while explaining to us the secrets of making the perfect cocktail. Ramon likes to say that the three key elements to a good Gin and tonic are:
- The glass, preferably a big balloon glass
- The ice that has to be compact, very cold and in big cubes
- The company
Of course, you would think of the Gin as a key ingredient but Ramon has more than a hundred different sort in his bar and usually says that the best Gin is different for every single person. Find the one you like and stick to it. And Els Caçadors' bar is the perfect place to do that as you will get both the choice and the guidance to find which brand suits you the best.
The restaurant was very good too also quite classic in comparison to some of the very sophisticated places we had a chance to visit during our trip. Everything was served in very large portions and they even took us to the rooftop area for the desert. They have a jacuzzi in there that would be lovely on a sunny day. Unfortunately for us it was raining...
