Description
Lub D is a great example of hostelling made right. Everything has been perfectly conceived from the original and vibrant design of the place to the social activities that will rhythm your stay there. I spend an entire week in of their twin rooms and a few more days in the dorm so I know the place quite well now.
I liked the Si Lom area as it was quite how I pictured Bangkok before coming: good street food, massage parlours everywhere, night markets and the fluorescent lights of the red light district. Pat Pong, a neighborhood close to the hostel will provide entertainment at night although it’s necessarily the most exciting that Bangkok has to offer. But all the rest is easily accessible using the skytrains and the amazingly cheap taxis of the capital city. Don’t believe the hype, you don’t have to stay in Khao San Rd to enjoy your stay here and Si Lom provides a very good alternative.
The hostel is pretty big without being huge and impersonal so you will have a chance to meet a lot of other travelers and still feel cozy. There’s a good mix of dorms, twin rooms and even very nice double rooms ensuite with flat screen TV. Quite fancy for a hostel!
I love the industrial design of the place which is the work of talented and creative architects with great design skills for the interior decoration. Every details has been well thought of and in addition to looking cool, everything is very functional, clean and convenient.
The social life at Lub D is very busy with activities every day ranging from club nights to Muay Thai training. All of this is organized by a team of lovely and super helpful hosts that you will be sad to leave at the end of your stay.
My only (small) complain will be about the wifi that is a bit unreliable and all the ports are blocked. But to be faire if you are not a nerd and/or working while you travel you probably won’t notice anything…
